About this item
Indiana Jerky Tuna Original: dried tuna for anyone out of beef ideas
Indiana Jerky Tuna Original is tuna dried into firm savoury strips: wild-caught Pacific tuna, lightly salted, smoked over beech and left alone after that. If beef jerky is the whole of your snacking world, this is the bag that redraws the map.
Why this one
- Pure fish, barely dressed: no marinade, no sweetness, no thick coat of spice. Salt and a little beech smoke, then it gets out of the way.
- Protein-dense for something this small: a 15 g pack of dried tuna carries a great deal more than its size suggests.
- Wild-caught and traceable: Indiana prints the catch area and the fishing method used to land it.
- Travels better than a tuna sandwich: shelf-stable, flat, and nothing leaks into your bag.
How Indiana makes it
Indiana works with yellowfin and bigeye tuna from the Central Pacific, trims it down to pure muscle and dries the strips slowly so they keep their structure instead of collapsing into flakes. It is heat-processed, which is how a fish product ends up with a long shelf life and no need for a fridge. Each pack is closed under a protective atmosphere. Open one and you have a couple of days. A pale coating shows on the surface sometimes and is a normal part of drying fish.
Taste and texture
Clean and properly savoury, with a salt edge and a long umami finish that carries on after the strip has gone. The beech smoke is a whisper rather than a statement. The texture is the real surprise: dense and slightly flaky, somewhere between jerky and very good dried fish, firm on the first bite and then giving way in layers. It is not fishy in the way people fear. It tastes of the sea, not of the fridge.
Who it is for
Desk days, when a sandwich would have gone soggy by eleven. Sailors, divers and anyone who already eats tinned fish without embarrassment. Fans of Japanese and Nordic dried fish who want it in a snack bag. It is also very good torn over a rice bowl, if you feel like being fancy.
Frequently asked
What sort of tuna is it? Yellowfin or bigeye depending on the batch, caught in the Central Pacific by line or by seine. The catch area is printed on every pack.
Is it strong-smelling? Less than you would expect. Open a bag in an open-plan office and nobody will move desks.
Does it need a fridge? No. Sealed, it keeps at room temperature. Opened, give it a couple of days.
