QINA Ostrich Sliced Biltong - the bird that eats like beef

QINA Ostrich Sliced Biltong is authentic South African-style biltong made from ostrich, cured, air-dried and sliced ready to eat. Ostrich meat is dark, fine-grained and genuinely lean, and anyone expecting poultry is in for a surprise: this eats like a proper red meat, savoury and clean, without the iron-heavy edge venison can carry.

Why ostrich

It tastes unlike every beef bag on the shelf: somewhere between good beef and game, which is a gap almost nothing else fills.

Lean by nature: ostrich is one of the leanest red meats going, and the slices stay tender instead of drying into something you have to fight.

Clean hands: no oil, no glaze and no shine on your fingers, so it can be eaten over a keyboard without consequences.

How QINA makes it

QINA cures the meat the traditional way, with vinegar and spice, then air-dries it slowly instead of applying heat or smoke, and slices it before packing so every piece is ready straight out of the bag. Sealed, it keeps at room temperature and asks for no refrigeration until you open it.

Taste and texture

Deep savoury flavour with a short, clean finish: less sweet than beef biltong, less wild than the antelope bags, and a good deal more interesting than its colour lets on. Cut thin, it is soft-chewy rather than tough, and the slices come apart in strips rather than shards. Within the QINA range it sits between the everyday beef and the louder game flavours.

Who it is for

The beef-jerky regular who has run out of new flavours, anyone keeping an eye on what they eat without wanting rice cakes, and the picnic where one person always brings something odd and everyone ends up eating it. Sliced biltong is also the easy one to drop into a lunchbox.

Frequently asked

Does ostrich taste like chicken? Not remotely. It is a dark red meat with a beefy, savoury character, and the bird part is a technicality.

How do I store it? Room temperature while sealed. Once open, keep it dry, close the bag properly and finish it inside a few days.

How is it different from the ostrich snapstick? Same meat, different format: these are thin slices for sharing, while the snapstick is one dense piece for a pocket.
