Cherky Beef Jerky Teriyaki – organic beef jerky that stays tender

Cherky Beef Jerky Teriyaki is an organic beef jerky made in Spain, built around organic tamari and a deliberately soft bite. Most jerky is dried until it fights back. Cherky went the other way and kept theirs yielding, which is why Men's Health named the organic Teriyaki one of its top three products for athletes in 2020.

Why this one

  • Tamari rather than a shelf teriyaki: Cherky marinate with organic tamari, which brings a rounded savouriness instead of the sharp, salty edge a cheap glaze leaves behind.
  • Tender, not leathery: the Cherky brief is a balanced taste that respects the natural flavour of organic beef, and that means not drying the life out of it.
  • Organic and high in protein: lean organic beef cuts, marinated and dried, with the protein you would expect from a bag of meat.

How Cherky makes it

Cherky is a Spanish producer working with organic beef. Lean cuts are sliced, marinated and dried to the point where the meat is set but still pliable, which is the step most producers overshoot. The honey and tomato in the marinade round off the salt rather than sitting on top of it.

Taste: sweet and savoury at once, with a gentle white pepper warmth arriving at the back.

Texture: soft and bendy, with a proper meaty grain running through each slice instead of the usual jaw workout.

Who it is for

The training bag, the desk drawer and long drives where the alternative is a service station. It is also the bag to hand to somebody who insists they do not like jerky, because the tenderness tends to change their mind before the second piece.

Frequently asked

Does it need refrigerating? No. Keep the bag somewhere cool and dry, and reseal or finish it once it is open.

How tender is tender? It bends rather than snaps. If your reference point is jerky you had to tear at with both hands, this is a different experience entirely.

What sizes does it come in? A 30 g bag, and a 10-bag box for people who have done the maths on how quickly one bag goes.
