Chokay BIO Bar Amazing Extra Dark is an organic extra dark chocolate bar with a minimum of 65% cocoa, which is 20% more cocoa than the Amazing Dark bar it sits next to. Expect a deeper, more intense cup-of-cocoa flavour with a subtle bitterness at the end. Fair trade, vegan and gluten free, in a 70 g bar for people who find most dark chocolate a bit shy.
What makes this bar different
More cocoa, less sweetness: A minimum of 65% cocoa pushes the flavour towards roasted and bitter notes. Per 100 g there are just 3.3 g of sugars, and no sugar is added to the recipe.
Fibre does the work: Inulin fibre replaces the sugar you would normally find in a bar, giving 41.9 g of fibre per 100 g.
Vegan and fair trade: No dairy in the bar and fair trade cocoa, which makes it an easy one to hand round.
Who makes it
Chokay is a Dutch chocolate maker based in Breda, in the Netherlands. This is the darkest bar in its organic BIO line, and every ingredient in it is from organic origin — cocoa mass, cocoa butter, skimmed cocoa powder, sunflower lecithin and natural vanilla.
Taste: Intense roasted cocoa up front, a subtle bitterness on the finish, vanilla in the background.
Texture: Hard snap, dense melt. This is a bar you break rather than bite.
