How to Stock Beef Jerky in Your Shop (And Why It Sells)

A category that keeps growing

If you run a specialty food shop, a health food store, a deli, or even a petrol station shop, you've probably noticed customers asking about beef jerky and meat snacks more often. That's not a coincidence. The European dried meat snack market has been growing steadily, driven by demand for high-protein, on-the-go snacking.

The opportunity for independent retailers is real. Beef jerky shoppers tend to be loyal, they buy regularly, and they're willing to pay a premium for quality. It's a category with healthy margins and strong repeat purchase behaviour.

What to stock (and what sells best)

If you're new to the category, here's a practical starting point. You want a mix of recognisable names and interesting discoveries.

Start with the anchor brands. Jack Link's, Wild West, and BiFi are the names most consumers already know. They sell reliably because people recognise them. Stock a few flavours of each (Original, Teriyaki, Sweet & Hot are typically the top sellers) and you'll have a solid foundation.

Then add the discovery brands. This is where you differentiate from the supermarket. Brands like Renjer (Nordic wild game jerky - elk, reindeer), Kings (traditional South African biltong), Kuivalihakundi (Finnish craft jerky), or Cherky (Spanish artisan jerky) give your customers something they can't find at the local Rewe or Albert Heijn. These products have higher margins and create the kind of "I found this amazing thing" word-of-mouth that drives repeat visits.

Don't forget the growing segments: turkey jerky for the poultry crowd, vegan jerky for plant-based shoppers, and biltong for the low-sugar, clean-ingredient audience.

Display and placement tips

Jerky sells best when it's visible and accessible. A few things that work well for independent retailers:

Place it near the till for impulse purchases. Jerky bags are the right size and price point for a grab-and-go addition to the basket. Create a dedicated "protein snacks" or "jerky bar" section if you have the space. Grouping the products together creates a mini-destination. Cross-merchandise with beer, wine, or outdoor/sports products. Jerky and craft beer is a natural pairing, and outdoor/fitness shoppers are a core demographic.

Where to buy wholesale

This is where most small retailers get stuck. The big brands have traditional distribution, but if you want the interesting craft brands or a wide variety from a single supplier, your options are limited.

Jerky Store Europe is the largest online jerky wholesaler on the continent. We carry 15+ brands and 150+ products. You order online (no phone calls, no sales reps required), we ship from Germany with tracking and insurance. EU businesses outside Germany get automatic VAT 0% pricing.

No long-term contracts. No forced minimum orders. You can start small, test what sells, and scale up as the category grows in your shop.
