KoRo Apple Chips Elstar 250g – one apple variety, sliced thin and dried crisp
KoRo Apple Chips Elstar is a 250 g bag of thin, crispy apple chips made from German Elstar apples. The apples are sliced and dried whole, peel included, with no peeling step at all. Nothing is added either: it is 100% apple with no added sugar, which makes it one of the more honest crunchy snacks you can keep within arm’s reach of a keyboard.
What makes these apple chips different
A single named variety: Elstar apples, grown in Germany. Elstar is sweet with a distinct acidity, which is why these taste of apple rather than of generic sweetness.
Sliced whole, peel included: KoRo do not peel them, so each ring keeps its shape and its fibre — 11 g per 100 g.
100% apple: no added sugar and no oil. The 68 g of sugar per 100 g is simply what happens when you take the water out of an apple.
How KoRo makes it
KoRo Handels GmbH in Berlin sources the apples in Germany and dries the slices rather than frying them, which is why there is only 0.6 g of fat per 100 g. The result crunches like a crisp but is made entirely of fruit.
Taste: concentrated sweet apple with a bright, slightly tart edge from the Elstar variety.
Texture: dry, thin and genuinely crispy, with a little chew where the slices run thicker.
