KoRo Freeze-Dried Mango Chunks 350g — tropical fruit that crunches instead of sticking
KoRo Freeze-Dried Mango Chunks are pieces of mango with the water removed and nothing put back. Freeze-drying keeps the shape and the flavour but takes the chew away completely, so instead of a sticky dried strip you get an airy cube that collapses under your teeth. It is mango at full volume, in a 350 g bag.
Why this one
- Crunch instead of cling: the chunks are light and dry, and dissolve on the tongue rather than wedging themselves between your molars.
- Flavour turned up: taking the water out leaves everything else behind, which is why a single cube tastes more mango-ish than a slice of the fresh fruit.
- Nothing added: no sugar, no oil, no colour. The orange is the mango's own.
- 350 g is a working quantity: enough for the blender, the baking tray and a jar left out on the counter.
How KoRo makes it
KoRo Handels GmbH is a Berlin food company that sells in bulk formats with short ingredient lists and less packaging per gram. The mango is cut into chunks and freeze-dried — frozen solid, then held under vacuum so the ice leaves as vapour without the fruit ever being heated. That is why the colour stays bright and the pieces keep their square edges.
Taste and texture: sweet and unmistakably tropical with a tang at the finish, and a texture somewhere between a meringue and a crisp. Set against the freeze-dried strawberry in the same range, mango is the warm, honeyed one where strawberry is sharp.
When to reach for it
Straight into a blender is the obvious move: freeze-dried fruit thickens a smoothie instead of watering it down with ice. It also scatters over granola and ice cream, and because the chunks are feather-light and sealed dry, a bag survives hand luggage and a long-haul flight better than any fresh fruit ever will.
Frequently asked
- How is this different from chewy dried mango? Dried mango is dense and leathery; freeze-dried mango is light and brittle, because the water is removed by freezing rather than by heat.
- Can I rehydrate it? Yes. Drop the chunks into yoghurt, porridge or warm water and they soften back towards fresh fruit within minutes.
- How do I stop it going soft in the cupboard? Freeze-dried fruit pulls moisture out of the air, so seal the bag properly or move it to an airtight jar.
